LA CROCE

Spacious and comfortable, La Croce is set on a hillside overlooking the evocative Castle of Mugnana. Built in 1693, the farmhouse has been carefully restored with terracotta tiles, wood beams and is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. Its panoramic views include the small town of Strada in Chianti.

In the 17th Century this farm house was part of the diocese of Fiesole where visiting priests would come to say Sunday mass. Thus, it was named La Croce, The Cross. Today, in the evening, the hillsides of Fiesole can be seen illuminated in the distance.

House Amenities

First floor eat-in kitchen has dishwasher, cooking range, refrigerator/freezer. Outside sitting area has a large table and chairs for dining.

Second floor has two living rooms with a fireplace, two master bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. One bedroom overlooks the Castle of Mugnana, second bedroom has views of the towns of Chiocchio and Strada in Chianti. The living area is approximately 1,600 sq. ft. and can accommodate five guests.

The outside terrace is 400 sq. ft. Sixty olive trees and fruit trees (cherries, apricots and figs) surround the fields of the house. La Croce’s hill top setting and thick stone walls keep it cool during the summer months. The windows are screened yet do not obscure the magnificent country views.

Culinary Activities

We can arrange a hands-on cooking lesson where you will make home made pasta, possibly a fish meal if you like, menu to be decided beforehand. This is a husband and wife Italian chef team who will come to the house and we are there to translate. We have had guests making videos of this fun afternoon/evening, so bring your cameras.
